London InterChurch Slo-Pitch League
Rules
  • 1. Eligibility - Minimum age is 14 as of May 8, 2011. However, each team may set its own limits, not lower than the league age of 14. All teams must be co - ed with a minimum of 3 women in the line up and on the field at all times. Although we can not enforce the play of individuals, we encourage teams to play ALL players equally. If a team has only two women present and the opposing team has three, the team with only two will field nine players instead of ten. If both teams have only two women, each can field the regular 10 players.
  • 2. Rain In the case of rain, the Coaches involved must contact each other to determine if it is possible to play the game. If both teams agree to a make-up game, you must notify Don Shirley (519) 245-1139 of that decision.
  • 3. Pre Game - The home team will say the prayer before the games start.
  • 4. Game Time - Games start at 6:30pm. Teams may begin and play the game with 9 players. There will be a 10 minute grace period allowed. If you cannot field a team by 6:40pm the game will be counted as a forfeit. Game two will start with no grace period - if you are still unable to field a team at that time the 2nd game will also be a forfeit.
  • 5. Adding Players - No players may be added to a game after the completion of the 2nd inning.
  • 6. Scoring - Each team must keep score and the home team will email the results to Alex Bloomfield (alextheboss11@gmail.com). An inning will consist of 3 outs or 12 batters, whichever comes first - except the fifth inning (top & bottom) which has unlimited batters until the third out is made. NO intentional walks. If 12 batters are up prior to the third out - the final out is to be made at home plate. First game is 5 innings, second game is 5 innings but if tied may proceed longer if both managers agree.
  • 7. Mercy Rule - If a team is losing and feels that they can no longer compete they can ask for mercy after their portion of the third inning.
  • 8. Arc - Minimum arc of 6 feet maximum arc of 12 feet (measured from the ground). These are slo pitch regulations; we have no accurate way to regulate this other than common sense.
  • 9. Foul Ball - Must clear the batters head and then be caught in order to be deemed an out. UMPIRES - call only foul balls nothing is to be said on a fair ball.
  • 10. 1st Base (Safety Base) - Batter/Runner must use the orange side of the base. The defensive player is to use the white part of the base if there is a play being made at first.
  • 11. Overthrow - On a ball thrown that goes out of play the runner will get the base they are running to plus one extra base. Where the throw came from does not matter.
  • 12. 3rd Base - There will be a line marked two thirds of the way between third and home plate - once the runner has crossed that line they must go home.
  • 13. Home Plate - There is no sliding into home plate. When a play is being made at home plate the catcher needs to have one foot on the plate with the ball in their glove. The runner must cross the line at home (marked from the front corner) and avoid making contact with the plate or the catcher. Only one defensive player can stand on home plate. If possible all other defensive players should clear the backstop area, ideally into the infield. In the case of an overthrow, the ball is in play and can be fielded by anyone and thrown to the plate.
  • 14. Contact at Home - If a player is tagged between the two thirds line and home plate the player will be considered safe.
  • 15. Injury/Courtesy Runner - A player must make it to at least first base safely. After the play has stopped the last out made may be substituted for the injured player. If the batter is the first on for the inning the last out from the previous inning is to be used. Since this is a church recreation league a courtesy runner is only acceptable for an injured player.
  • 16. Shoes - NO metal or removeable spikes are allowed.
  • 17. Umpires - Each team wil provide one person to act as umpire. Only the coach or manager may talk to the umpire. The umpire's call is FINAL!! If any rule interpertation or clarification is needed, please call either David Herbert @ (519) 681-2735 or Don Shirley @ (519) 245-1139.
  • 18. Play offs - A player must have played 8 games to be eligible to play in the playoffs. A violation of this rule will necessitate the removal of the team from the tournament.
  • 19. Suspensions - Managers retain the right to suspend any player that in the opinion of the manager after consultation with the opposing manager does not exemplify true sportsmanship of the league. Should any player continue to display misconduct, a meeting of the managers will be called as soon as possible to settle the matter.
  • 20. "Three-women rule" for September Tournament: - a. During the September Tournament, each team must field three women. b. If a team cannot field two women, the game (s) will be automatically forfeited. c. If, before the September Tournament, a coach is informed that a woman who has played regularly is unable to attend, that coach can approach another woman who has not played the stipulated eight games.
